DA243 OPMM6033 KUMP A FUNDAMENTALS OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY
The course is designed for students studying management for the first time. It introduces the student to a range of topics which are useful in understanding the principles of management and the role of business managers in achieving business organisational goal. The topic covers include business organisational goals, dynamics of business environment, management theories, management tasks and the functional areas of management, values and business ethics, as well as sustainability. The focus of the discussion will be on the roles and responsibilities of business managers as well as the challenges of ethically managing the businesses in the complex and dynamic business environment. The ultimate aim of the course is to help students to recognise the dynamics of business environments and how the business managers consider these dynamic environments in designing strategies that will ensure business survival and success while at the same time ensuring social and environmental sustainability.

"Managers function in organizational settings. They guide organizations and human resources towards the effective and efficient achievement of objectives. Knowledge of how organizations function and of human resource management principles, concepts, processes, policies and practices is vital to those preparing for responsible positions in business organizations. This course helps prepare the student to effectively manage people and organizations. Managerial Skills and workplace relationships is a theory-based ""skills"" course designed to acquaint you with the theoretical and practical knowledge of essential managerial skills needed in business. The course introduces the essential communication skills required by managers, as well as conceptual frameworks for managing relationships in the workplace. The focus of the course is on skill development in partnership with acquisition of academic knowledge. The aim is develop think critical thinking and practical strategies.
