DN242 GFPP5214 KUMP A NON-TRADITIONAL SECURITY ISSUES

This course draws the attention of students to the fundamental changes that have taken place in the concept of security and security studies since the end of the Cold War. The subject of security has undergone a radical transformation involving a deepening and broadening process to include the new dimensions of human, ecological and economic security in addition to traditional military and political concerns which have themselves undergone a structural change. These developments mirror the growing concern about the potential disasters that human activities have brought to the environment, the climate and the economic and social well-being of people around the globe. Students will engage in debates about the measures, policies and solutions required to limit or eradicate non-traditional security threats.
