The course is a comparative study that covers legal and ethical concepts in relation to specific areas in business law. The areas of discussion would include an introduction to legal jurisprudence, ethical philosophy and its classifications, theories, and concepts on corporate social responsibility. Other areas of law would include contract law, company law, the sale of goods, consumer law, employment law, environmental law, intellectual property law, and issues related to international trade law. It is also designed to inform and stimulate thinking on ethical issues and corporate responsibilities in the business world. The course will also examine and discuss the content and value of codes and other normative standards that have been advanced as models for responsible corporate behaviour. It is intended to help prepare students to recognize and manage ethical issues as they arise, and to help them formulate their own standards of integrity and professionalism.
