This is the follow-up course of Financial Management, where the aim is to enhance students understanding of the investment decision-making process and the long term financing process. It reviews the concept of time value of money as a preparation so that they can apply the concept in other topics such as securities valuation, capital budgeting and cost of capital. In addition, leverage and capital structure, dividend policy and international financial management will also be discussed.

The objective of the course is to provide students with hands-on experience in financial statement analysis. Students will be exposed to general tools of financial analysis, theoretical concepts, and practical valuation issues. By the end of the course, students should be comfortable with using firms' financial statements to develop an understanding of their performance and to establish a basis for making reasonable valuation estimates.

The course starts with an introduction to the unique aspects of international financial management, and briefly describes the evolution of the international monetary system, and the present international financial markets. Following this, it examines in-depth the foreign exchange market. Then, it looks at the factors that influence exchange rates. Next, the course introduces currency derivatives (futures and options), and explores their use for speculation. Later, the international parity conditions, or theories, that underpin exchange rates are explained. Subsequently, the course examines the measuring and managing of the three types of foreign exchange exposure. Afterwards, the key components of corporate finance, more specifically, cost of capital and capital structure, capital budgeting analysis, as well as working capital (particularly, cash) management, are reviewed from the perspective of a multinational company. Finally, the course ends with an overview of international trade finance.

It progresses from simple examples to more practical and more hands-on applications, spanning most of the models in corporate finance and investment. Financing for large purchases, such as buying automobile and property, and investing in financial instruments, such as stocks, bonds and mutual funds, will subsequently be covered. Protection for individual and family's basic risks, such as buying life and health insurance, will be discussed along with retirement and estate planning. Issues that are unique to the Malaysian context will be incorporated accordingly.
