This course provides a critical review on the meaning and role of financial accounting theory in financial reporting practices internationally. Students will be exposed to the major areas of research in financial accounting reporting practices. It is hoped that by the end of this course, students would have developed awareness regarding the problematic nature of accounting, disclosure of information, accounting regulations, the role of accounting information in promoting social change and emerging issues in global financial reporting practices. This course is primarily a seminar that involves independent study on specific contemporary reporting practices topics, as well as discussions on research papers of the various financial accounting theories and reporting practices. Students are exposed to a wide range of research paradigm in accounting, including from the positivistic, interpretive and critical perspectives. The topics are generally drawn from areas of share market valuation of financial information, positive accounting theory, contracting and corporate governance and auditing. Additionally, students are introduced to the application of various financial accounting theories within a particular topic for example earnings management and other future corporate reporting.

The purpose of the course is to lay the foundation for designing, evaluating and executing business research. It concentrates on basic considerations involving acquiring business research knowledge, thinking about and doing business research. Knowledge on basic research issues such as the philosophy of science, what makes inquiry scientific, developing research questions, theories, and research designs for both quantitative and qualitative research are discussed.

Strategic HRM matches the HRM activities and policies to the strategic direction of a company. With this idealism, strategizing human resources capability towards achieving the objectives of an organization has always been the prime concern of HR strategists. The course is designed around the concept of an integrated HRM, which emphasizes HR strategic roles in organizations.

This course introduces the importance of Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and other legislations such as FMA Act 1967, SOSCO 1969 and etc. in managing the workplace safety. This course disclose many regulations and substitutes in Malaysian laws that cover the specific hazards prevention and controls before and after 1994. The differential of the laws cause the major problem to manage occupational safety and health in the workplace. In 29 February 1994, Occupational Safety and Health Act or 514 Act were implemented. It covers all aspect of safety and health management in the workplace from the duties of the employers and employees to major hazards prevention and controls.

Occupational psychological issues have the potential to affect negatively on health and safety performance. If the issues are now well manage, it could cause various problems to management such as operation disruption, poor quality, low productivity, bad image, absenteeism, turnover, incidents and accidents, burnout, stress, medical claims and compensation. It could also affecting the employee well beings such as sexual harassment, stress and workplace violence, drug and alcohol abuse. This course covers topic relating to current issues on occupational psychosocial issues and techniques on how to address the issues. Related guidelines, code of conduct and regulations will also be covered in this course.

Government has to deal with every aspect of life of the citizens. In most circumstances, those functions involve governments decision, whether to do, or otherwise. All governments decisions are known as public policy for they all meant to serve the wellness and the wellbeing of the greatest number of people. Governments policies are measured by effectiveness, obtained through analyses on social, political and economic factors. This course focuses on the public policy process in Malaysia and other countries, and concentrates on how potential ideas for governments actions are translated from concepts into reality. This course will examine both the policy process at the federal (national) level and policymaking by state governments and its subsidiary units. Students are presumed to have some prior background in public policy, either through employment or prior study.

This course aims to equip the managers with an overview of relevant economic issues in a private and public context. Starting with an exposition of the fundamental economic concepts and examining the workings of the market system. Different market structures and their impact on organizations are reviewed. Relevant aspects of the macroeconomic are introduced with a focus on public & private impact and decision-making. Specific problems like inflation, growth, and the control of business cycles will be addressed. This is followed by an exposition of international economic issues. The course ends with a research activity that will pull all the course strands together and prepare students fully for the assessment. Various macroeconomic tools will be used to analyze how government policy measures in regulating and planning to overcome economic imbalance will be discussed. By the end of the course, the student should be able to evaluate macroeconomic arguments in the economic situation critically and to understand the nature of economic policy issues at the conceptual level.

The course covers basic principles of research methodology and process of legal research, the techniques of legal writing and presentation of research proposal and report. The topic of discussion includes choice of research topics, conceptualization, research method, operationalisation, population and sampling, data processing, analysis and application.

This course is designed to give students an understanding of the keys area of advanced commercial and how they relate to each other. The course offers student an opportunity to examine certain areas of commercial law. The course then focuses on the importance of agreements in the commercial world involving sale of goods, supply of goods and services and what makes such an agreement legally binding on the parties. In addition, where there is a legally enforceable contract, the rights and obligations which can be enforced under it are determined by the terms of the contract. The focus is on the idea of personal property, which form the basis of all commercial law. It is suitable for those who want to bring themselves up to date with recent development in this field. The course will focus on the law of agency, law of partnership and law of company. This course then deals with the complex legal provisions in relation to sale of goods, negotiable instruments, cheques, and insurance.
