This seminar will discuss important areas related to the English Language Teaching (ELT) practitioner such as teacher training, types of systems of schooling (private vs. public), management of ELT, status of English, status of teachers, and native versus non-native teachers of English. The main aim of this student-led seminar will be to allow students to reflect on their professional experiences in general and on one aspect of their experience in depth. Students will decide on topics of relevance to them with the view of the audience, which is the MEd ELT group as a whole. Initially, students will be encouraged to form small groups and explain certain aspects of their teaching/professional contexts to each other, guided by staff. For the main part of the course, students will form loose groups working on similar issues and a timetable of presentations (conference style, controlled timing) to the whole group will be drawn up. This seminar will be a venue for students to discuss issues which are of importance to them and the ELT profession.

This course provides an overview of the fundamental issues in curriculum design and development. It considers the various aspects involved in designing and developing the curricula. Students will be introduced to the general concepts, guidelines and key elements in curriculum and syllabus design, as well as curriculum and syllabus development. Using the knowledge obtained, students will also be required to design and develop the curriculum/syllabus of a programme.

This course is designed to provide the student with the concept of 21st century curriculum leadership and supervision in promoting effective teaching and learning. It addresses the issues of curriculum leadership, supervisory belief and approaches. The course focuses on developmental supervision as tool in developing and enhancing the quality teaching and learning.

It offers students an in-depth study on this subject, including the definition of aqidah, the development of a school of thought in aqidah from historical perspectives since the early period of Islam until nowadays. Students will also be exposed to various thoughts related to the concept of God, the creation of the universe and human being which become debatable among the theological scholars. It also exposed the aqidahs thought of Ashariyyah, Muktazilah, Syiah, Salafiyyah and Wahabiyyah. Apart from that, the discussion of deviance ideologies will also be highlighted and the methodologies of overcoming them.

This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of Islamic akhlaq based on Sufism view. This course will expose the various aspects related to the formation of character that enable students to understand and evaluate associated with moral behavior in the present life. The discussions on act of worship from akhlak perspective can increase the level of confidence among the student that good characters are easier to form through worshipping Allah. At the end of this course, students will learn the roles of good characters in molding the personality of individual and society to generate excellent characters.

The aim of this course is to guide the students to master and practice the effective teaching skills in ELT. Through this course also hoped that students can choose and use appropriate methods and strategies to achieve the objectives of teaching and learning outcomes as well as able to make an assessment of the teaching process. In addition, students will also be introduced to the teaching practice through micro teaching.

This course develops an understanding of the nature and role of mathematics education. It focuses on the learning and teaching of a range of topics in the secondary school mathematics curriculum. The course will develop educators with an understanding of knowledge and pedagogy for mathematics teaching and learning. Mathematics teaching and learning theories will also be explored towards understanding the different methods to teach and the ways learners understand mathematical concepts and solve mathematics problems. Practical skills in managing teaching and learning in mathematics classrooms will also be discussed.
