The course discusses the role of rehabilitation centers in Malaysia namely prisons, detention centers, drug rehabilitation centers and, probation and parole offices. Analysis will also be done on the needs for social skills at rehabilitation centres, insights about the process and techniques used whilst providing services and exploring issues related to extended care given after leaving the rehabilitation centers. Concerns of the effects of rehabilitation practices on members of the family and community will also be looked into.

This course discusses the ethical bases and concepts as well as the process in the formulation of laws concerning the helping profession. Discussion of ethics focuses on the professional ethical guidelines available in other countries and the analysis of ethical dilemma, particularly in relation to personal perspective, the profession and policy. Meanwhile, the discussion on the laws emphasizes on the legal aspects of social service as well as the target groups identified by the Department of Social Welfare.
