This course will introduce the sociological perspectives in the tourism field. Specifically, the scope of study in this course will focus on hosts and guests. The topics which will be discussed are; definitions of tourism, typology of tourist, motivation and tourist mode of experiences. This class will also focus on tourist role in the tourism industry toward the community particularly on the individual relations, group/family and society/host community.

This course aims to expose students to the concepts, issues and applications of sociological perspectives on event management. It is intended to develop in students an awareness of the sociological dimension of event management. The topics of discussion include social values, institutions and organisations that provide the social context of event management. The basic premise of the course is that in any social situation, especially in multicultural society such as in Malaysia, there may be many contestable issues surrounding an event because different ethnic groups may react differently to the staging of the particular event. A professional event manager must be able to gauge the acceptability of an event to the local public.

This course discusses the first domain in Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK). It is aimed to provide students with knowledge concerning the concepts, theories, principles and issues related to Administration domain. Students will be exposed to the proper allocation, direction and resources needed in an event project as well as how to acquire and allocate resources effectively to ensure a successful event project. During the course, student will be introduced to the different resources that are required for an event project such as finance, human resources, information, technology, time and most importantly how to procure all these resources for their event.

In this course the students will be exposed to the actual nature of the job related to tourism industry. The training programme will provide an opportunity for students to understand the relationship between theory and practice through the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them in the organization/industry. Throughout the practicum, they will be exposed to the job aspects such as planning, organizing, controlling, promotion and marketing, human resource, customer service, logistic, sponsorship, and risk management at the respectitive organization/industry.
