This course focuses on the dynamic relationship between politics and business. Students will be exposed to natures, features, strengths and weaknesses of both realms. Later, students will be exposed to various types of analysis on government policy and business. The course will also apply a decision technique namely the Public Choice Theory which generally used to study government interference in business. This will include the discussion on various government policies normally used to affect its business in the market. The course will also extend the study on state-business relationship to international level, particularly on the bargaining process between home-host countries with the Multinational Corporations. Finally, the course will discuss a list of major policy areas which covers the relationship between politics and business especially in the current context.

This course addresses ways in which economic forces alter the international distribution of political power and resources and ways political power change the international distribution of wealth. In this respect, the course applies political economy theories to the international arena for the purpose of exposing students to the core and current issues that affect the international political economy (IPE). The course deals with IPE ideologies and perspectives, IPE structures including production, trade, finance and knowledge-technology and contemporary market-state tensions (regionalism, democratization, economic transition/reform, development). Finally selected issues from vast area of topics in IPE will be discussed including issues on development and democratization and the environmental issues.

This courses aims to provide students with the basic understanding of regional political economy. Students will begin by looking at the basic concepts in political economy and work their way to examining existing regional organizations from their historical development to the roles and structures of such organizations. The course will also focus on regional cooperation, issues and problems besetting organizations such as ASEAN, APEC, the EU, NAFTA and MERCOSUR.

Political and economic risks analysis has become very significant and an important characteristic to be explored before any international investments are made. The main objective of this course is to identify and evaluate the elements of political and economic risk analysis, its range and role in a variety of contexts  international business, international political and financial institutions, trade grouping and individual government activity. It will review country risk analysis methods to capture trends, strengths and weaknesses in the economic and political systems. At the end of the course, students are expected to present their own risk analysis for their country study.
