This course aims to expose students to the concepts, issues and applications of sociological perspectives on event management. It is intended to develop in students an awareness of the sociological dimension of event management. The topics of discussion include social values, institutions and organisations that provide the social context of event management. The basic premise of the course is that in any social situation, especially in multicultural society such as in Malaysia, there may be many contestable issues surrounding an event because different ethnic groups may react differently to the staging of the particular event. A professional event manager must be able to gauge the acceptability of an event to the local public.

This course will provide a comprehensive theoretical and practical framework for planning and managing sport and recreation events. Specifically, the emphasis of this course is placed on the importance of management in sport tourism events. This course is designed to provide students with full knowledge and concise overview on the latest theories and thought in the field of services marketing. The marketing of services is different from the marketing of goods. This difference become critical when tourism is concerned fully on service related nature. Service marketing is clearly a crucial issue today, in an era when marketing theory is dominated by the concept consumer-or market-led marketing, where organization must meet the demands of their customers if they are to thrive and excel in the market place. The tourism organizations (tourism providers) normally face difficulty in fulfilling these tasks unless they understand fully well on how to strategize their services marketing. The course focuses its discussion and analysis on theories and concepts of services marketing so that students will be able to develop strong knowledge on the foundations of services marketing, managing the service outcome, and services strategies. Students are also expected to be able to examine specific case studies that related to services marketing in tourism. This course will provide a comprehensive theoretical and practical framework of tourism transport. Specifically, this course will focus on types of mode and emphasized the complex role of tourist selections of transport. In addition, emphasis is placed on the importance of management and marketing of tourist transport. Environmental sustainability and other relevant issues of critical factors such as low cost airlines will also be covered in this course via case studies and hands-on experiences.

This course provides students with an overview of heritage. The class will examine the definitions, principles, and practises associated with heritage management. It also explores the interactions between heritage and tourism. In so doing, the management aspects of heritage resources are studied. The course also covers the demand side in heritage tourism industry that covers visitor characteristics, motivations, needs and demand patterns. To strengthen the understanding of heritage, various issues are addressed; the like of interpretation, authenticity, commoditisation, ownership, as well as the future of heritage management nationally and globally.

This course discusses the crucial elements involved in the successful operation of a restaurant and shows their interrelationships. FA231 GHZP4083 KUMP G TOURISM SEMINAR

This course is designed to broaden and deepen students knowledge in tourism foundation subject area that is of concern to practitioner. The course will enable the students to develop thinking ability as well as acquiring tourism knowledge through evaluating and explaining current issues critically. Students will also be able to utilise knowledge accumulated from earlier courses and develop frameworks to discuss and evaluate current issues surrounding tourism. Class time focuses primarily on the assigned readings and tasks. The development of effective communication skills, both written and oral will be emphasized through class discussions and written assignments.

This course introduces students to the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry. It is aimed to provide students with knowledge concerning the basic concepts, theories, principles, values and issues related to MICE management. Students will be exposed to the development and benefits of MICE industry in Malaysia and globally as well as the current trends and future challenges of the industry. During the course, students will be introduced to different types of MICE events; different venues and facilities available; organizing; marketing and operations of MICE events; key industry stakeholders; quality issues; MICE event evaluation and bidding process.
